Weighing of garbage - how does this work?

In 1999, all households in the county of Schweinfurt were equipped with new cans for organic (bio) and non-organic (regular) garbage. The new cans are of black recycled plastic. Cans for organic garbage have a brown lid and sticker with information on sorting. All cans are equipped with a microchip. When your can is collected, the chip reading device in the garbage truck will recognize your can. Simultaneously, the can is weighed. For monitoring purposes, the weight of the last 60 collections is stored on the chip.

What are the new Garbage Fees?

Effective 01.01.2008, the garbage fees are calculated as follows:

Monthly basic fee
The new basic fee is based on the size of the regular trash can. There is no basic fee for the bio can.

Weight fee

Garbage has to be processed or disposed of. If you sort your garbage well and have less garbage in your can, or if you compost organic garbage yourself, you´ll cut down the costs. As an incentive, there will be a weight fee for collected garbage now.

Regular waste	0,14 €/kg
Bio waste	0,07 €/kg

Collection fee

Garbage pick-ups will be charged. If, in one week, you do not put out your garbage can for collection, you can save money.

Collection per can

0,20 € /can

For reasons of hygiene, however, garbage should not be kept in the containers for too long. Therefore, a minimum of 7 collections per year will be billed for each regular garbage can, and a minimum of 13 collections per year for each bio can.

Monthly costs for leasing a lock amount to the following:
